Fertile Ground is a band from Baltimore, USA, which blends soul, jazz, funk and African-inspired rhythms into a unique sound and style. The sextet led by keyboardist James Collins will perform live in Bratislava on February 10, in a neat underground club called Spojka.
In November, fertile Ground released its fourth album called Black Is. As its title suggests the band holds a deep respect for African-American heritage. Unlike their peers whose slick production has flooded musical charts, the sound of Fertile Ground is as raw and as groovy as it needs to be, enriched with a silken vocal of Navasha Daya.
The Billboard magazine has called Fertile Ground „one of the most exciting live bands around“. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see them live.
Door at the club, which is located near the Danube river on Presernova 4 in Bratislava, 100 meters from the Slovak National Museum, opens at 8 p.m.
DJ Gabriel Brunner, a resident of famous Bratislava’s nu-jazz café Buddha Bar, will open the night with his selection of soul and jazz. The band will start performing about two hours later and will be followed by DJ Kinet, also a Buddha Bar resident.
Tickets for the event can be bought at the door from 8 p.m., or in advance for 320 koruna at Buddha Bar on Medena 16, Nepal CD shop at Zamocnicka 11, and at all locations participating in Eventime ticket network (for a complete list of locations and on-line purchase go to www.eventim.sk).
