Bratislava During Nineties

The events of November 1989 in Prague launched the dismantling of the communist regime. At the same time, the long unresolved question of the real federalisation of Czechoslovakia was raised along with the first political changes. The inability of the political elites of that time to find a compromise resulted in the disintegration of Czechoslovakia. At the stroke of midnight on 31 December 1992 Czechoslovakia ceased to exist for the second time. Bratislava again became the capital city of an independent Slovakia.

The Status of capital has meant radical positive changes in the nature of the city. In the beginning of the 1990s, visitors to Bratislava were left with the impression of an area were war had just ended. Nowadays, it is considered to be one of the most dynamically developing and most prospective regions in Europe.
